**Job Purpose
- Pharmacist I has broader and higher level of experience and responsibility and can work as in charge/acting supervisor at different areas during periods where area supervisors are not available.**Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring the safe, effective and rational use of drug therapy in assigned area/s including the dispensing and monitoring of prescribed medications.
- Performs regular pharmacist tasks independently and work at a different pharmacy areas as assigned.
- Responsible for ensuring that prescribed drug therapies are appropriate with respect to each individual patient’s age, weight, disease state(s) and laboratory parameters.
- Effectively communicates with staff on matters related to drug therapy and the provision of Pharmacy services at KAAUH and recommends drug therapy treatment plans to the appropriate prescribers.
- Participates in the training of new pharmacy staff, residents and students.
- Coordinates the work activities of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in the dispensing area. Where he/she is in-charge, to ensure that all prescriptions and physician orders are dispensed correctly and efficiently.
- Prepares and presents educational materials that promote the safe, effective and rational use of medications within KAAUH.
- Reviews, compounds, dispenses monitors prescribed medications to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of therapy.
- Supervises Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Aides within the Department to ensure that medications are packaged, prepared, dispensed and delivered accurately and appropriately.
- Provides counselling and drug information to patients, families and staff regarding the correct use and storage of medications, as well as other relevant information regarding potential side effects and/or drug interactions with prescribed drug therapies.
- Participates in quality improvement programs of the department and KAAUH as a whole and offers suggestions to improve the delivery of quality patient care services.
- Ensures that all applicable policies and procedures are followed, including those related to the security, documentation and handling of narcotics and scheduled drugs.
- Maintains own personal and professional competence by participating in continuing education programs within pharmacy practice.
- Works as per work schedule including shifts & on-call duties as assigned.
- Prepares reports related to medication use at KAAUH as required by the Director of Pharmacy Services.
- Serves on KAAUH committees as requested.
- Participates in and supports quality improvement and patient safety activities as an individual or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Identify and report of potential allergic drug reactions and drug interactions/incompatibilities, medication errors and near misses
- Respects patients and their families to promote a patient-centred care culture.
- Serving as a role model representing the department in a professional manner.
- Performs other related duties as required.
**Job Qualifications and Experience**
**Minimum or Required**:
- Master’s Degree in Pharmacy.
- A valid license to practice as a pharmacist issued by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
