We are looking for an Senior Specialist, Marine Conservation Planning who has the experience and ability to support the evolution, implementation and support the design and delivery of a comprehensive program of nature conservation and protected area management.

**Key Accountabilities & Activities**:
Assist in the development and implementation of best practice adaptive management for Nature Reserve and marine estate. Specifically, assist in the:

- Development, implementation and review of innovative and pioneering solutions for conservation policy and planning;
- Development of science-based conservation and management policy to create a comprehensive governance framework for effective protection and enhancement of marine natural resources, fisheries, and biodiversity within a Marine Spatial Planning and Blue Economy Framework. Including:

- Drafting policy material, information, and context concerning marine fisheries, spatial planning, protected areas, and areas beyond national jurisdiction;
- Developing specific, practical proposals, positions, interim policy, and regulations based on best practice and research findings;
- Assisting in the development of short and medium term integrated marine management plans, integrated coastal zone and marine spatial plans, marine protected area plans and management plans for species, habitats, and fisheries;
- Design and delivery of adaptive management and spatial plans for the Nature Reserve;
- Development and implementation of management strategies for different protected area categories and species management plans;
- Support and management of conservation compliance in relation to developments, recreation and visitor activities relevant in the Nature Reserve;
- Development and management of environmental education and outreach programs;
- Design, review and delivery of marine data analysis and planning, outputs and policies to support marine conservation, including restoration and rewilding and marine spatial planning;
- Investigation and implementation of alternative livelihoods for local communities;
- Coordination of activities with other Departments, consultants and stakeholders to deliver a robust conservation strategy and program.

**Essential skills**:

- Must have a PhD degree in Environmental Sciences natural resource management or other relevant area is preferred.
- 5-10 years experience in nature conservation, preferably in marine conservation.
