Intensive Care Consultant

The Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leadership to the ICU team. This role requires a strong commitment to evidence-based medicine, professional medical ethics, and adherence to hospital policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care within the parameters of their professional competence and clinical privileges.
- Practice within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and formulate a multi-disciplinary treatment plan.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on patients within the range of the specialty.
- Assess and refer patients to other medical facilities as needed.
- Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergencies.
- Observe and uphold patients' rights, security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of patient medical information.
- Lead performance-improvement functions and participate in Continued Medical Education (CME) activities.
- Supervise junior staff and provide leadership for the ICU team.
- Participate in committee meetings and abide by hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide emergency consultation and accept referrals of patients with medical problems in the field.
- Participate in daily unit management activities, including triage, bed allocation, and discharge planning.
- Recommend unit policies and procedures and supervise their application.
- Participate in Quality Improvement and Infection Control activities.
- Interact with other departments to facilitate patient management and smooth operation of the ICU.
- Review the utilization of ICU resources and provide recommendations.
- Recommend equipment purchases and changes, and provide input on structural and design changes within the unit.
- Provide the Medical Director with recommendations on ICU activities, morbidities, mortalities, and major changes.
- Conduct regular ICU rounds and see patients as needed.
- Investigate and manage patients with medical problems related to the subspecialty.
- Collaborate with other physicians to refer patients to appropriate facilities for further management.
- Perform critical care procedures, including endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Lead the ICU team in providing managed care for patients with complex illnesses or injuries.
- Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of required training in specialty and/or subspecialty.
- Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty.
- Registration in Saudi Commission of Health Specialties and/or current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience post-qualification.
- Additional experience in a sub-specialty is desirable.
- Academic affiliation is desirable.
- Fluent in spoken and written English, with communication in spoken Arabic being desirable.
- Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of computer applications is desirable.
