Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer, Inspection to join our Technical Services team at Allied Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the inspection team and ensuring that all inspection processes are carried out in accordance with defined schedules and checklists.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plant Inspection: Develop and implement inspection schedules for plant rotating and stationary equipment, review data collected by inspection engineers, and assess the residual life of equipment to advise on life extension and replacement requirements.
  2. Major Shutdown Inspection: Plan and coordinate inspection activities during major shutdowns, develop an inspection database, conduct or witness inspections, and recommend corrective measures to maintenance.
  3. Equipment Condition Monitoring: Develop a schedule of inspection for plant equipment, review collected data, and develop a database to monitor trends and plan corrective actions based on inspection trends.
  4. Excavation/Encroachment Permits: Manage the issuance and control of excavation and encroachment permits within Allied Services premises and for Allied Services facilities.
  5. Cathodic Protection: Develop a schedule of cathodic inspection data collection for all plant equipment, review collected data, and develop a database to monitor trends and plan corrective actions based on inspection records.
  6. Recruitment & Motivation: Participate in the recruitment, training, development, and motivation of staff in the Inspection section to ensure that staffing is at the required levels and caliber and that performance is continuously managed and improved.
  7. Policies & Procedures: Recommend improvements to departmental policy and direct the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of Inspection activity.
  8. Safety, Quality & Environment: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and controls across the Inspection section.
  9. Leadership: Ensure the effective achievement of Technical Services departmental objectives through the leadership of the Inspection section.
  10. Cost Control: Monitor the financial performance of the Inspection section against budgets.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in a Mechanical or Corrosion engineering-related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of maintenance or plant inspection experience in a heavy industrial or utilities environment. They will also have 5 years of experience in the Inspection section within the utility sector and 3-5 years of experience in managing a team of qualified professional Inspection Engineers.

Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate will possess expert knowledge of specific Inspection disciplines such as Condition Monitoring, Cathodic Protection, Non-destructive testing, etc. They will also have detailed and expert knowledge of the Allied Services plant equipment, extensive knowledge of Inspection systems and principles, sound understanding of Inspection risk management philosophy and techniques, and sound understanding of Inspection QA/QC philosophy and techniques.
