Roles and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out impactful research, teach courses related to the candidate's research field, contribute to core courses and/or electives in public sector management and leadership, supervise capstone projects, and contribute to the overall academic environment of the School.
1. Teaching & Curriculum Development
Course Design & Delivery: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to public administration, public policy, governance, ethics, leadership, and organizational behavior in the public sector.
Course Innovation: Update courses regularly to reflect the latest trends in public administration, including technology in government, nonprofit management, social equity, and global governance.
Student Engagement: Foster active student participation, critical thinking, and problem-solving by encouraging discussions, case studies, and practical applications of public administration theories.
Advising & Mentoring: Provide academic and career advising to students, especially graduate students and doctoral candidates, guiding their research and professional development.
2. Research & Scholarly Activity
Conducting Research: Engage in empirical and theoretical research related to public administration, governance, public policy analysis, and the management of public organizations.
Publishing Research: Publish findings in top-tier academic journals, books, and reports. The research should aim to advance the field of public administration and inform public sector practices.
Research Grants: Secure funding for research projects, collaborating with governmental, nonprofit, or international organizations to enhance the impact of their work.
Policy Influence: Contribute to public policy debates by producing research that influences policymaking and government practice at the local, national, and international levels.
3. Service to the Academic and Professional Community
Committee Work: Actively participate in university governance, serving on committees that shape the direction of academic programs, departmental decisions, and administrative policies.
Peer Review: Serve as a reviewer for academic journals, conferences, or grant proposals, providing critical feedback to ensure quality scholarship in the field.
Professional Development: Participate in public administration conferences, workshops, and symposia, maintaining professional networks and staying current with trends in public management and policy.
Community Engagement: Engage in professional service and contribute to the broader field of public administration through outreach, speaking at public forums, or advising public and nonprofit organizations.
4. Public Engagement & Policy Advice
Consulting: Provide expert advice and consultancy to government agencies, public sector organizations, and nonprofit entities to improve public service delivery, policy implementation, and organizational effectiveness.
Public Advocacy: Advocate for more effective, transparent, and equitable governance practices in both academic and public settings. Engage with media or write op-eds to influence public understanding of key administrative and policy issues.

Desired candidate profile

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in public Administration
Teaching Experience
Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching public administration or related courses at the undergraduate or graduate level. Familiarity with diverse teaching methods, including lectures, case-based learning, and project-based learning.
Mentorship: Ability to mentor graduate students and early-career researchers, providing guidance on academic writing, research methods, and career development.
Course Development: Experience in developing and updating course materials that align with current trends in public administration, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and applicable.
Skills & Competencies
Leadership and Management: Strong leadership skills, both in terms of teaching and academic governance. Ability to lead research teams, manage student research projects, and contribute to administrative leadership within the department or university.
Analytical and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to examine public administration systems and policies critically, including policy evaluation, public sector innovation, and governance challenges.
Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students, collaborate with peers, and present research findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers, academics, and the public.
Public Speaking: Comfort with public speaking and engaging in discussions on public administration issues in various forums, including academic conferences, media appearances, and policy panels.

Passion for Public Service: A genuine commitment to public service, social equity, and promoting effective governance for the public good. Strong understanding of the role of public administration in advancing social justice, transparency, and accountability.
