Job Description: Design Engineer

Position Overview

The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing innovative, safe, and cost-effective semi-trailer designs that meet customer requirements and comply with industry standards. This role involves working closely with production, quality, and sales teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, durable, and optimized for performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Design & Development
  • Create 2D/3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for semi-trailers and components.
  • Develop new trailer concepts (flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, etc.) based on customer specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet structural integrity, weight optimization, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engineering Analysis
  • Perform stress, load, and fatigue analysis using FEA tools.
  • Validate designs through simulations and prototype testing.
  • Recommend material selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaboration
  • Work with production teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for component specifications and integration.
  • Support sales and marketing with technical input for customer proposals.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve safety, and enhance trailer performance.
  • Implement design changes based on feedback from manufacturing and field performance.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in product design, preferably in automotive or heavy equipment manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Knowledge of FEA tools and structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with ISO, SAE, and DOT standards for trailers and heavy vehicles.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and sheet metal design.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems in trailers.
  • Ability to balance innovation with manufacturability and cost efficiency.
