Exploration Driller

Job Purpose:

To independently operate and maintain diamond core drilling and reverse circulation (RC) drilling rigs for mineral exploration, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality drilling operations in compliance with project, client, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Drilling Operations

Operate diamond and RC drill rigs to obtain core and chip samples at required depths and orientations.

Plan, set up, and dismantle drilling equipment and related infrastructure.

Select and use appropriate drilling techniques, bits, and fluids for varying geological formations.

Ensure proper recovery, labeling, and handling of drill core and RC samples for geological logging.

Equipment & Maintenance

Conduct pre-start inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on drill rigs, compressors, pumps, and support vehicles.

Identify mechanical issues early and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.

Ensure drilling equipment and tools are always in safe and working condition.

Safety & Compliance

Adhere strictly to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) standards, company policies, and client regulations.

Conduct job safety analysis (JSA), risk assessments, and toolbox talks before work.

Maintain clean and safe drill sites, including spill prevention and waste management.

Operational Reporting

Record and report daily drilling activities, penetration rates, depths, core recovery, and delays.

Communicate progress, issues, and recommendations to supervisors and geologists.

Ensure sample chain-of-custody and accurate documentation.

Team Leadership & Training

Supervise and mentor assistant drillers, offsiders, and helpers.

Assign daily tasks and ensure proper handling of equipment and samples.

Promote teamwork and continuous improvement within the drilling crew.

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum 7+ years' experience in exploration drilling (diamond core & reverse circulation).

Strong knowledge of drilling methods, rig operation, and geological sampling procedures.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy vehicles/equipment (preferred).

Certifications in HSE, First Aid, Rig Safety, and Heavy Equipment Operation (advantage).
