The team

The globalbusiness development leadership team sets the strategy inconsultation with the global strategy board and global practicegroups. The business development and Marketing (BD&M) teams(comprising communications marketing business and clientdevelopment experts) are led by regional heads of businessdevelopment who are aligned to our regional boards: Asia PacificMiddle East and Africa North America UK Europe.

Our strategy seeks to:

  • Manage anddevelop clients and profile in our global sectors.
  • Adopt a content and product led approach when growing ourmarket profile.
  • Prioritise the use ofintegrated digital marketing channels.
  • Position our most senior staff as advisors to thebusiness supported by expert execution teams.
  • Our principles dictate that the highest value clients andopportunities command the highest value BD attention and bespoketactics.

The role

This roleis a key component of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) businessdevelopment and marketing team who work across our MEA marketspractice and sector groups with a key focus on engagement andconversion stages of the sales pipeline. You will be expected toleverage and influence our global network; facilitate the salesprocess; conceptualise and coordinate high value marketing andcommunications activity and provide advisory and execution servicesto grow market and client revenue. Shaping and implementinginitiatives tailored to market and client nuance will be key to thesuccess of this role. This role may have line management andsupervision responsibilities and is supported by specialist pitchesand pursuits; marketing and communications; client development; andcentralised shared services teams.

Key responsibilities

Management responsibilities

  • Work closely with the head of BD&M toensure the BD&M team are driving forward the key pillars ofthe MEA strategic plan.
  • Effectively supportingthe head of BD&M and the wider team as appropriate todeliver broader firm projects and focus on larger picturestrategy.
  • Effectively advocate the aims of thefirms business development agenda to the business assistingpartners lawyers and team members in maintaining an awareness ofthese aims and guiding their implementation.
  • Maintain an overview of the developments taking place inthe firm and market and communicate those developments to partnerslawyers and other team members.
  • Contribute tothe continuing development of business development and marketingtools that support the implementation of our plans.

Clientgrowth

  • Institute a Clientsfirst client centric mindset. All activity across the pipelineshould have an intentional client impact and outturn whichcompliments the regional growth objectives.
  • Work with regional partners to identify the clients thatoffer the greatest potential for revenue growth and implementmultipractice client development plans designed to sell ourfullservice capabilities.
  • Support andfacilitate the deployment of client insight methodologies to embedsenior client stakeholder relationships and satisfaction reviewprocesses.
  • Work collaboratively with businessdevelopment managers and client development managers regionally andglobally to ensure alignment of client programmes across the firmensuring that BD activity is driven by client need.
  • Lead collaborative client teams with colleagues fromvarious functions (e.g. HR finance business intake) to achieveagreed yearly milestones.

Marketgrowth

  • Lead the client andmarket related development and implementation of the relevant partsof the MEA 3year growth strategy.
  • Developclear strategies and business development plans formulate alignedmarketing campaigns and maintain a strong focus on growing keyclient relationships.
  • Work closely withbusiness development managers leading practice and sectorstrategies in your market to ensure a coordinated and consistentgotomarket strategy.
  • Support the pitches andpursuits team on key strategic pitches and ensure the pitchinfrastructure adequately represents the strengths of yourmarket.
  • Oversee the communication andmarketing strategy for your market including supporting onmultichannel marketing campaigns in coordination with the wider BD& marketing team.
  • Manage marketingmaterials and activities in support of the business development andclient growth agendas including brochures directory submissionsawards submissions web pages client articles social media postsnewsletters reports podcasts webinars etc.
  • Work with the marketing and communications team to ensurePR strategies support growth plans and enhancecampaigns.
  • Manage the full endtoend eventprocess for client events including planning project managementmanaging event logistics and running events onsite.

Candidaterequirements

Substantial experienceof working in relevant roles and comparable environments

preferably within the legal industry including:

  • Experience managing more junior teammembers.
  • Developing clear plans for keysectors and demonstrating the resulting increase inrevenue.
  • Managing the implementation ofstrategically aligned marketing activities.
  • Implementing and managing appropriate crosspractice andinternational activities.
  • Experience ofsetting and monitoring budgets.
  • Workscomfortably at manager level and possesses the ability to influencekey
  • partner/lawyer groups.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to handlemultiple priorities within tight timescales.
  • Able to work to very tight deadlines under pressure andto assimilate information quickly.
  • Stronginterpersonal skills including confidence positivity diplomacy andthe ability to
  • gain credibilityquickly.
  • Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills.
  • Demonstrates attentionto detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Positive and tenacious with the ability to proactivelydrive initiatives forward and motivate resources within and outsidetheir team to perform.
