JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reporting into the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Commercial Director will be a senior member of the Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) Management Team. The job holder will be responsible for providing commercial leadership to the business promoting a culture of informed decision making and supporting the negotiation of the delivery of contracts which support the Integrated Business Plan (IBP) in an environment underpinned by effective financial control and operating within the requirements of Life Cycle Management and the Operational Framework. The Commercial Director will lead the Commercial organisation across multiple locations in Saudi Arabia and UK.

The Commercial Director will also hold responsibility as the functional and primary point of leadership for the development and maintenance of commercial capability in Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) across all programmes. To do so successfully they will possess excellent leadership and customer management skills / behaviours and will continue to drive continuous improvement performance across the business.

Key to this is the requirement to develop the commercial organisation ensuring it has the relevant skills, capabilities, competences and experience required.

A critical element of the role is to support the Management Team in the effective forecasting and implementation of the business IBP whilst ensuring the company delivers both existing business and captures new business opportunities.

Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) is a key contributor to the successful implementation of the BAE Systems' industrialisation strategy for Saudi Arabia and support to Vision 2030. The Commercial Director is therefore charged with optimising career opportunities for Saudi nationals, transferring key commercial expertise and ensuring that Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) develops and delivers significant indigenous capability and value to Saudi Arabia.

As a member of the Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) Management Team, the Commercial Director has additional responsibility to support the growth of the business through securing new business opportunities. The position holder is also accountable for the Commercial Governance, operation, and performance of the business whilst demonstrating and advocating our leadership behaviours and enacting the agreed company strategy.

As a leader of the business, be an advocate of safe working practices across the organisation.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

  1. Member of the Management Team responsible for the operation, governance, and performance of the business, definition and implementation of the strategy and delivery of the Integrated Business Plan.
  2. Work with the delivery teams to ensure effective application of Life Cycle Management and to provide functional / business guidance and support.
  3. Maintain and deliver appropriate levels of governance and controls through the application of the Operational Framework and Commercial Policy underpinning Commercial capability.
  4. Maintain an effective approach to support the development of Commercial staff capability.
  5. Develop functional capabilities through effective resource planning, individual development plans, talent management and promotion of Saudisation.
  6. Support business winning, cash management and improving profitability.
  7. Lead contract negotiations to ensure the successful conclusion, determine pricing, payment strategies and policies in assigned areas.
  8. Develop, co-ordinate and implement overall financial targets and budgetary management strategies in assigned areas.
  9. Manage potential areas of risk and carry out risk analyses and assessments to support the minimisation of risk.
  10. Build, manage and maintain relationships with existing and potential customers to ensure the effective management of both current and new business.
  11. Relevant Degree / Master's Degree or equivalent and c. 15+ years commercial experience.
  12. Experience of working effectively with the BAE Systems Saudi Arabia and Head Office organisation as well as senior stakeholders in Arabian Industries, the Customer, partner and supplier community.
  13. Strong relationship development and influencing skills.
  14. In depth knowledge of the KSA and GCC defence markets, competitors, supply base, products / services and ideally Arabian Industries (Supply Chain) strategy.
  15. Extensive knowledge of business unit financial, commercial, and procurement policies and the business unit approach to Life Cycle Management (LCM).
  16. Proven experience in developing, negotiating, agreeing and managing defence contracts / subcontracts of high value and complexity.
  17. Member and accredited by the World Commerce and Contracting (WCC), Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply or equivalent.
