Principal Gis Specialist

Lead the Urban Planning Department’s GIS team in continuing to develop the Royal Commission’s GIS Platform by integrating geographic data from various sources including as-built drawings, field surveys, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and BIM-based models.

Proven track record of delivering outcomes with a strong ability to prioritize tasks in a highly changing environment, with a focus on efficiency and quality.

Experience in leading small GIS teams as a technical supervisor demonstrating the following;
- Expertise with Esri’s ArcGIS for Desktop software suite and related extensions
- Experience in performing geospatial modeling, analysis, and data manipulation using ArcGIS
- Experience with and interest in keeping up with advancing and emerging technologies, e.g., Drone technology, GPS survey, and Ground Penetrating Radar, etc.
- Experience in analyzing geospatial data for geographic statistics to be incorporated into documents & reports
- Ability to identify and solve technical problems independently with rapid turnaround times
- Produces spatial and non-spatial data while ensuring technical accuracy and logical consistency in processing and output
- Able to manage large amounts of spatial and non-spatial information in accordance with industry standards
- Demonstrates expertise working with a variety of coordinate systems
- Demonstrates expertise working with vector and raster data sets
- Demonstrates proficiency in converting data between GIS-related and CAD-related file formats
- Ensuring GIS data submission quality levels and deadlines are met
- Merging the portfolio/program-wide GIS data to a single source of truth
- Integrate multiple data sources accessible thru the GIS portal
- Use GIS data for reporting, dashboarding
- Provide and orchestrate knowledge transfer to the Royal Commission GIS staff

In addition, the incumbent must possess the following specific skills and competencies:

- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from a Western University.
- 12+ years of professional experience, preferably with an urban planning or environmental consulting organization
- Experience with managing small GIS-based teams
- ESRI Technical Certification(s) preferred
- Skilled presenter and communicator of GIS functions, outputs and capability to senior management and peer groups/workshops.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
