Job Description

The Category Manager role is a key position that supports one or several procurement categories, working closely with Global Category Managers, Categories Team Leaders, and Tactical Buyers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning:
  • Provide input into worldwide category strategies for short, medium, and long-term needs.
  • Ensure relevant stakeholders have a good understanding of the company's needs and support the category strategy to secure targeted projects and customer competitive advantage.
  • Identify and deliver clear, measurable savings targets by category, endorsed by business/project.
  • Ensure category commitment and spend compliance tracking is well reported.
  • Procurement Competitiveness Capture:
  • Monitor category markets on an ongoing basis to identify key players, newcomers, economic evolutions, market or regulation constraints, innovations, and technology to support up-to-date category strategies.
  • Provide insights on how products/projects can be more competitive via supplier adoption, methodologies, or technology.
  • In conjunction with Procurement Product, Bids, and Project Managers, support Make/Buy decisions to optimize business performance.
  • Governance, Leadership, and Performance Management:
  • Apply governance using KPIs and root cause corrective actions.
  • Manage supply base performance in line with Global Category Manager standards.
  • Ensure supplier competitions follow governance process and are balanced and fair to improve business and customer performance.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts and framework agreements as required, aligned with category strategies.
  • Achieve global contract/framework agreement adoption and utilization.
  • Comply with government regulations during category strategy conception/implementation.
  • Fully utilize procurement tools according to governance procurement work packages at a global level.
  • Understand and manage risks, opportunities, and Tier supply chain mapping to optimize business performance.
  • Based on supply base performance, identify suppliers requiring focused development actions and ensure Supplier Development Team support/leverage for successful execution.

Operational Support:

  • Ensure Tactical Buyers receive necessary information to raise Procurement Orders.
