Responsibilities
  1. Lead a distributed team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and career development opportunities.
  2. Manage shift scheduling, measure key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide training to ensure team members have the necessary skills to succeed.
  3. Support timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and other technical solutions to address business needs in various technology fields, including Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju, and MAAS.
  4. Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills, representing Canonical in customer interactions and ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of support.
  5. Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders, ensuring that our team's goals and objectives are aligned with the company's overall strategy.
  6. Advocate for modern software development practices, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
  7. Collaborate with other teams in the organization to drive business outcomes and achieve company goals.
  8. Work from home with occasional global travel for internal and external events.
Requirements
  • Deep experience with three or more of the following: Ubuntu Linux, kernel or userspace, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Postgresql, Mongo, deb or snap packaging.
  • Professional software delivery experience using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for software development, with a focus on open source software and Linux.
  • Leadership experience, with a proven track record of organizing and prioritizing complex problem resolution and bug fixes.
  • Experience with version control systems such as git.
  • Experience with debugging tools such as gdb, crash, or others.
  • Demonstrated commitment to testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
  • Excellent communication skills in the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Linux, with a preference towards Ubuntu.
  • Experience with Open Source and Open Source Business Models.
  • People management experience in a support organization is a strong plus.
