Job Summary:

The HSSE Engineer will oversee the management of health, safety, and environmental (HSSE) matters, providing leadership and advice to the Pace team. This role requires effective employee engagement skills, a values-based leadership style, and a commitment to continual learning.

This position involves supervising, managing, and motivating a team, as well as providing support and guidance. The successful candidate will have experience in HSSE with respect to construction contract management, risk management, change management, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and advice on HSSE matters, working closely with the Pace HSSE Director/Manager.
  • Assist the Pace Project Director/Resident Engineer with day-to-day HSSE operations.
  • Drive the education of HSSE management system documentation with Pace site employees.
  • Oversee contractor building and road safety strategies and HSSE programs.
  • Verify contractor HSSE closeout actions with identified hazards.
  • Escalate noncompliance with sites HSSE program in accordance with contract documents.
  • Facilitate and document formal HSSE assessments/risk assessments and collect required evidence.
  • Drive continuous improvement via regular HSSE inspections and trend analysis.
  • Produce project HSSE statistics and KPI information.
  • Investigate incidents thoroughly, determining root causes and corrective actions.
  • Promote internal project HSSE awareness through regular training sessions.
  • Remain up to date on HSSE regulations and network with other safety professionals.
  • Assist the client with all aspects of project HSSE.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Occupational Safety and Health or similar.
  • Experience working with reputable Engineering Firms, preferably consulting firms.
  • 10 years + experience.
  • NEBOSH / IOSH / IASP / OSHA certified.
Professional Experience:
  • Experience in HSSE with respect to construction contract management.
  • Risk Management competencies and experience.
  • Change Management competencies and experience.
  • Conflict Resolution competencies and experience.
  • Strong experience in understanding Middle East health, safety, security, and environment legislation.
  • Excellent Risk Assessment/analysis skills.
  • Demonstrate experience in strong communication both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing building and traffic safety.
  • Strong understanding of relevant HSSE legislation and technical standards.
  • Strong experience with ISO and other types of external certifications.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge in Risk Assessment & Job Safety Analysis.
  • Exemplary understanding of Western and Middle East OHS&E requirements.
