Overview:

To plan, design, and oversee the execution of mechanical engineering works related to material handling systems. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of handling equipment and associated systems, while meeting project scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering:

Develop and review mechanical designs, specifications, and layouts for handling systems (conveyors, cranes, loaders, bulk material handling equipment, etc.).

Ensure compliance with international engineering standards, codes, and client specifications.

Conduct calculations for load, stress, and system capacity to guarantee performance and safety.

Prepare technical documentation including drawings, data sheets, and bill of materials.

Project Execution:

Support project planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities for mechanical scope.

Supervise installation, erection, and commissioning of handling systems at site.

Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues.

Monitor project progress, ensuring mechanical works are delivered on time and within budget.

Quality, Safety & Compliance:

Conduct inspections and testing of mechanical systems to ensure adherence to QA/QC requirements.

Enforce safety standards and participate in risk assessments related to mechanical handling equipment.

Ensure environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance in all project activities.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

Review vendor proposals and technical offers for handling systems and equipment.

Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).

Liaise with project managers, clients, and consultants to ensure mechanical deliverables align with project goals.

Continuous Improvement:

Provide input into lessons learned and best practices for handling system projects.

Recommend design or operational improvements to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency

Qualifications/Requirements

Required

Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum 4 + years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in material handling systems (conveyors, cranes, loaders, bulk systems, or similar).

Proficiency in engineering design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).

Familiarity with project management tools (Primavera, MS Project, or similar).

Strong knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and safety regulations.

Experience in site supervision, installation, and commissioning of handling equipment.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
