ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Gifted and Talented Coordinator at AISJ is tasked with identifying, nurturing, and supporting the needs of gifted and talented scholars throughout the school. This role involves the establishment, management, and assessment of programs that cater to the unique educational and socio-emotional requirements of these scholars, ensuring their full potential is realized. This person also serves as the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Coordinator within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for 11th and 12th grade scholars seeking the IB Diploma.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Identification and Assessment:
    • Define, with administration, criteria for talented and gifted scholars.
    • Collaborate with teachers to identify potential gifted and talented scholars.
    • Coordinate the assessment process to confirm a scholar's eligibility for the gifted and talented program.
    • Coordinate scholar CAS activities to successfully carry out projects in line with IBDP program guidance.
  2. Program Development and Implementation:
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve curriculum and enrichment programs tailored for gifted and talented scholars.
    • Facilitate the integration of differentiated instruction within regular classrooms.
    • Create after-school and weekend opportunities for scholars.
    • Oversee the implementation of in-class programming.
    • Obtain and maintain Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) training through the International Baccalaureate program before employment or as soon as possible in the first semester if not already trained.
    • Utilize 2 periods per week meeting with scholars enrolled in the CAS program, and additional time for CAS Coordination (up to 40% of weekly time).
  3. Professional Development:
    • Train teachers and staff on strategies for supporting gifted and talented scholars.
    • Foster awareness about the unique needs and challenges faced by these scholars.
  4. Scholar Support:
    • Provide academic and socio-emotional counseling specific to gifted scholars.
    • Ensure that gifted scholars are consistently challenged and stimulated in their learning environment.
    • Monitor the academic and personal progress of gifted and talented scholars, liaising with teachers and parents.
    • Organize specialized events, workshops, or competitions for gifted scholars.
    • Support IB Diploma scholars in crafting and carrying out their plan, ensuring the highest level of scholar agency.
  5. Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with administration to ensure the gifted and talented program's goals align with the school's overall vision.
    • Collaborate with other school departments, like arts and sports, to ensure gifted scholars have holistic development opportunities.
    • Engage in regular communication with the parents of gifted scholars, keeping them informed and involved in their child's educational journey.
    • Coordinate with external organizations for enrichment opportunities, like summer camps or academic competitions.
  6. Resource Management:
    • Oversee the allocation of resources for the gifted and talented program, ensuring tools and materials are up-to-date.
  7. Family and Community Outreach:
    • Conduct regular workshops for parents on understanding and supporting their gifted children.
    • Build community partnerships to offer external opportunities for gifted scholars.
    • Foster a school culture that appreciates and celebrates the diversity of scholar talents and abilities.
    • Organize events that showcase the achievements and projects of gifted scholars.
    • Support IBDP scholars in carrying out projects that connect with community partners.
    • Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in gifted education and apply these findings to the AISJ program.
    • Use IB-related technology platforms to document curricula and scholar progress (Atlas, ManageBac, etc.).
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CORE SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Gifted Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience, ideally with gifted and talented students.
  • Experience in program coordination, administration, or leadership in education.
  • Experience with curriculum development for gifted learners.
  • Understanding of gifted and talented student needs and educational strategies.
  • Familiarity with research and best practices in gifted education.
  • Proficiency in designing differentiated instruction and enrichment programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Competence in using educational technology and managing student data.
