Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Surgeon Consultant to join our team at National Medical Care Co. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general surgery and excellent leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality patient care and maintain a high level of professional performance in accordance with professional medical ethics and hospital standards.
  • Lead the department and maintain an appropriate quality plan using measurable performance improvement standards in the field of general surgery.
  • Ensure that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding is given to every patient served at National Medical Care Co.
  • Provide patient care within the parameters of their professional competence as reflected in the scope of their clinical privileges for both in-patients and out-patients.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and formulate a multi-disciplinary treatment plan including pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on patients within the range of the specialty.
  • Assess and refer patients to other medical facilities as well as accept referrals of patients with medical problems in their field of specialty.
  • Participate in the on-call rota of the department for patient care and admission.
  • Respond to emergencies and offer advice and actively participate with problems related to their specialty.
  • Observe and uphold the patient's rights of security, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all patients.
  • Provide leadership for performance-improvement functions in the process of measurement, assessment, and improvement of both clinical and non-clinical processes.
  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) through educational hospital activities and national and international meetings.
  • Participate in training programs related to their field and organization within the hospital.
  • Continuously update their knowledge in the medical field and upgrade their level of skill in their field of profession.
  • Participate in committee meetings assigned to them.
  • Abide by Department Policies and Procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, Rules, and Regulations.
  • Responsible to educate patients/families as per their needs and implement their whole role regarding patient/family education process.
  • Involve patients/families in plan of care and respect patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
  • Provide health promotion and health teaching through methods appropriate to a patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, and ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situations.
  • Allot time necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
Reporting and Supervision
  • Reports to the Head, Department of Surgery.
  • Supervises Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, and other paramedical staff assigned to them.
Requirements
  • Saudi Board, or American Board, or Canadian Fellowship, or FRCS, or Equivalent.
  • Up to five (5) years after post-qualification.
  • Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of their specialty.
  • Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/or Current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Higher qualifications in their specialty, if any.
  • Additional experience in a sub-specialty.
  • Academic affiliation.
Competencies
  • Demonstrates leadership and administrative skills.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Is knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws.
  • Knowledge of computer application.
