Roles and responsibilities

The First Officer is responsible for assisting the Captain in aircraft control and ensuring safe, reliable air travel of passengers and flyadeal crew members. The role holder is also responsible for assuming responsibility of the Captain if Captain becomes incapacitated.

Requirements
Minimum of 1500 flying validated hours on turbojet aircraft with FMC, EFIS or glass cockpit equipment.
Current and valid GACA or ICAO CPL license.
Current A320 type rating or turbojet aircraft over 30 tons.
Hold a class 1 medical certificate issued by a GACA or ICAO member state.
No record of flight accident.
Age limit 50 years at date of joining.
Saudi National.
. Flight Operations Support:
Assisting with Flight Planning: Help the Captain review flight plans, including navigation, weather conditions, fuel requirements, and airspace restrictions.
Pre-Flight Checks: Conduct pre-flight inspections of the aircraft, reviewing systems and ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly, including avionics, flight controls, and safety equipment.
Takeoff and Landing Support: Depending on the airline and aircraft type, the First Officer may be responsible for performing specific tasks during takeoff and landing, such as monitoring instruments, controlling aircraft speed, or managing throttle settings. In some cases, the First Officer may be the pilot handling takeoff or landing (especially during training flights).
. In-Flight Duties:
Flight Monitoring: Continuously monitor aircraft systems, such as autopilot, engine performance, fuel levels, and navigation systems, to ensure that everything is operating correctly.
Navigation and Communication: Ensure proper navigation by using aircraft instruments, air traffic control (ATC) communication, and charts to follow the flight route.
Co-Pilot Role: Work alongside the Captain to manage flight tasks, share cockpit duties, and maintain smooth communication with the flight crew and air traffic controllers.
Assisting with Emergencies: In case of an emergency, the First Officer must be able to assume the Captain's role or assist in managing the situation, depending on the nature of the emergency. This could include managing mechanical failures, medical emergencies, or changes in weather conditions.
Weather and Turbulence: Work with the Captain to adjust flight paths or altitudes in response to changing weather conditions, such as turbulence or storms.

Desired candidate profile

1. Licensing and Certifications:

  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL): A First Officer must hold a CPL, which certifies them to fly aircraft for commercial purposes.
  • Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL): First Officers may be in the process of obtaining their ATPL, which is required to become a Captain.
  • Type Ratings: Depending on the aircraft being flown, First Officers must have type-specific ratings for the particular aircraft they are piloting (e.g., Boeing 737, Airbus A320).
  • Medical Certificate: A valid Class 1 medical certificate is required to ensure the First Officer is physically and mentally fit to fly.

2. Skills:

  • Strong Communication Skills: First Officers must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with the Captain, the rest of the flight crew, and air traffic control. Communication is key to ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the flight.
  • Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Ability to make quick, effective decisions during normal flight operations and in emergencies, sometimes under pressure.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is necessary when monitoring aircraft systems, instruments, and flight conditions.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: While the Captain is in charge, the First Officer must demonstrate leadership when necessary and be a reliable team player. This includes coordinating with the Cabin Crew and assisting in managing crew resource management (CRM) effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems, navigation, and flight instruments is essential. The First Officer must be able to operate the aircraft's avionics and controls proficiently.
