Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Harvesting and Irrigation Specialist to join our team at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The successful candidate will work closely with our technical experts to support the implementation of water harvesting and irrigation projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review and update reports on the current situation of rainwater harvesting in the Kingdom.
  2. Review relevant strategies, policies, and regulatory frameworks and document their impact on water harvesting development.
  3. Assess and quantify rainwater harvesting potential for rehabilitation of rural farming, rangeland, forest, and degraded land.
  4. Collaborate with local research institutions and academic partners to conduct studies on the sustainability and environmental impact of rainwater harvesting techniques.
  5. Undertake a benchmarking study of best practices and technologies for rainwater harvesting in countries with a similar context as KSA.
  6. Design and lead the establishment of pilot rainwater harvesting and irrigation techniques.
  7. Prepare and update practical guidelines on harvesting and maximizing the use of rainwater.
  8. Identify water harvesting potential sites and suggest pilot interventions.
  9. Advocate for policy reforms and institutional changes to create an enabling environment for rainwater harvesting practices.
  10. Engage in knowledge exchange and capacity building activities.
  11. Prepare and deliver need-based water harvesting training courses.
Requirements
  1. Advanced university degree in Water harvesting technology, irrigation management, or related subjects.
  2. Seven years of relevant experience in technical cooperation-related activities.
  3. Working knowledge of English.
FAO Core Competencies

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Work experience in more than one region.
  2. Knowledge of water harvesting systems and technologies.
  3. International work experience in technical cooperation projects.
  4. Demonstrated communication skills.
  5. Analytical skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports.
  6. Proficiency in English is essential.
