We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Academic Advisor to join our team at [Company Name]. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting student success by providing guidance and support throughout their academic journey. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of academic requirements and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students on academic program options, course selection, and career pathways
  • Assist students in developing personalized academic plans and monitoring their progress towards graduation
  • Conduct regular meetings with students to discuss academic goals, challenges, and progress
  • Provide guidance on course registration, including prerequisite requirements and scheduling considerations
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure timely and accurate information is communicated to students
  • Stay updated on academic policies, program requirements, and curriculum changes
  • Identify and address academic and non-academic challenges that may impact student success
  • Monitor academic performance and develop intervention plans for students in academic jeopardy

  • Student Counseling and Support:

    • Provide guidance and support to students regarding academic goals, course selection, and career pathways.
    • Advise students on academic requirements, prerequisites, and degree programs, helping them to navigate academic policies and procedures.
    • Assist students in identifying their strengths, interests, and academic challenges to ensure a personalized educational experience.

  • Course Scheduling and Registration:

    • Help students choose and schedule courses based on their academic goals, major requirements, and personal interests.
    • Provide information about course prerequisites, registration deadlines, and graduation requirements.
    • Ensure students are enrolled in appropriate courses to maintain academic progress and prevent schedule conflicts.

  • Academic Progress Monitoring:

    • Monitor and track students' academic progress, including their grades, course completions, and degree requirements.
    • Identify students who are at risk of academic probation and develop strategies to help them improve their academic standing.
    • Advise students on how to overcome academic challenges, such as improving study habits or seeking tutoring services.
Desired candidate profile

Bachelor's degree in [relevant field]
A minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or related role
Strong knowledge of [specific academic area or program]
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build rapport with students and establish trust and credibility
Good organizational and time management skills
Proficient in using technology and academic advising software
Familiarity with student success strategies and best practices in academic advising
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to advise and motivate students, including those facing academic challenges or personal issues.
Knowledge of academic policies, degree programs, and student support resources.
Proficiency with academic advising software, student information systems (SIS), and office productivity tools like Microsoft Office Suite.
Analytical skills to assess student performance, track progress, and identify areas where intervention is needed.
Soft Skills:

Strong listening skills to understand student needs and concerns.
Empathy and patience when dealing with students' academic or personal issues.
Problem-solving skills to help students overcome academic barriers and develop strategies for success.
Organizational skills to manage multiple students' needs and maintain detailed advising records.
Time management skills to effectively balance advising sessions, meetings, and administrative tasks.
