Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Manager to join our Housekeeping team at Cooks Home Assistance Care. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Housekeeping Manager in the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day activities of Housekeeping staff and Supervisors in a designated unit, conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with departmental requirements.
  • Monitor the standard of work produced by Supervisors to ensure it meets established quality standards and working book files.
  • Provide regular reports on activities related to Housekeeping in the designated area.
  • Liaise with service users on Housekeeping and related issues.
  • Check staff attendance sheets and staff allocation, monitoring leave requests closely to ensure proper coverage is available.
  • Prepare Supervisory work assignments and check Housekeeper work assignments and specifications in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Arrange for cleaning after construction and renovation projects in areas under direct responsibility, in conjunction with pest control and infection control.
  • Assist the Housekeeping Manager and Quality Coordinator to design quality control and monitoring procedures appropriate to Housekeeping services and implement these procedures.
  • Evaluate the work performance of Supervisors and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Recommend disciplinary action for subordinate staff, as necessary, in accordance with hospital disciplinary procedure.
  • Ensure that employees involved in construction, renovation cleaning have appropriate PPE available and use it.
  • Determine what training programs Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors require and devise them with the Quality Coordinator.
  • Ensure safe working practices are observed.
  • Undergo training determined to be beneficial by the Department Head or Administrator and provide cover for other Assistant Managers as required.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required by the Environmental Services - Housekeeping Manager.
  • Perform unit inspections using approved checklists and document results and actions taken at a minimum of twice annually.
  • Use objective monitoring devices (e.g. ATP) to determine cleanliness of patient rooms and report results to employees and to the Housekeeping Manager, to be done monthly.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Environmental Health, Business Administration or related discipline is required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience with Bachelor's Degree, including one (1) year in Managerial/Supervisory position in Tertiary Health Care Environment required.
  • Ability to speak and write fluent English.
  • Must have a working knowledge in MS office software (MS Word, Excel).
