Helping with washing up and other kitchen duties where needed

1. Food Preparation:
Assisting with Food Prep: Prepare ingredients for dishes, including washing, chopping, peeling, and portioning items.
Following Recipes: Adhere to recipes and cooking techniques under the guidance of more experienced chefs, ensuring consistency and quality.
Cooking Basic Dishes: Prepare simple or basic dishes (e.g., soups, sauces, salads, garnishes) based on the specific station or section within the kitchen.
2. Working Under Senior Chefs:
Learning and Development: Work closely with more experienced chefs, learning new cooking techniques and procedures, and gaining an understanding of kitchen operations.
Assist in Specific Kitchen Sections: Depending on the kitchen's structure, a commis chef may be assigned to a particular section, such as the hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry, or salad station, and assist the chefs de partie in these areas.
Station Organization: Help organize the kitchen station, ensuring that all necessary tools, utensils, and ingredients are ready for use.
3. Maintaining Kitchen Hygiene and Safety:
Cleaning Duties: Assist with cleaning tasks, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
Food Safety and Hygiene: Follow health and safety regulations, including proper food storage, handling, and waste disposal, to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that kitchen tools and equipment are well-maintained and clean.
4. Assisting with Cooking and Plating:
Plating Dishes: Assist senior chefs with plating dishes for service, ensuring that the presentation meets restaurant standards.
Cooking Assistance: Help in the preparation and cooking of dishes for service, following orders and guidelines to ensure dishes are cooked properly and timely.
Time Management and Efficiency:
- Service Timing: Help ensure that food preparation is done in time for service, coordinating with other kitchen staff to maintain the flow and ensure quick turnaround times.
- Managing Multiple Tasks: Effectively manage various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced kitchen environment to ensure smooth service.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Culinary Knowledge and Passion:
- A strong interest in cooking, food, and culinary techniques is essential. A commis chef must be willing to learn and improve their cooking skills continually.
2. Basic Cooking Skills:
- Although the position is entry-level, having basic cooking skills and understanding basic kitchen terminology is beneficial.
- The ability to work with various kitchen equipment (e.g., knives, mixers, ovens) and follow recipes is key.
3. Attention to Detail:
- Commis chefs need to pay close attention to detail when following recipes, plating dishes, and ensuring the correct portion sizes.
4. Time Management:
- Working in a fast-paced environment means managing multiple tasks at once. A commis chef must be able to prioritize and work efficiently under pressure, particularly during busy service hours.
5. Teamwork and Communication:
