One of our prestigious clients is looking to hire a Shipbuilding Director, with 9+ years of experience In the Ship building industry who will be responsible for but not limited to:

Job Overview

Manage the building of ships by efficiently overseeing human resources, optimizing the utilization of production facilities, and aligning with company objectives in terms of quantity, timelines, expenses, and quality.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Align section goals, processes, and resource allocation with the organizational strategy while maintaining awareness of commercial and business objectives.
  • Ensure the accomplishment of organizational unit objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating organizational unit activities.
  • Define objectives, identifies, and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Support with strategic problems resolution and subjective decision making.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Supervise the entire work done by the team members and making sure it is completed on time without any delay. 
  • Lead the team to complete tasks and meet goals through delegation of responsibilities and supervising business operations.
  • Set the vision and motivation of the team in order to achieve the sought objectives efficiently.
  • Set appropriate and achievable deadlines.
  • Track and report critical organizational unit performance results and escalate and negotiate business related issues to senior management.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper collaboration with naval architects, marine engineers, and other technical experts to review and refine ship designs.
  • Oversee the ship construction process, monitoring technical aspects such as welding, fitting, and outfitting.
  • Ensure that shipyard workers follow approved engineering plans and drawings.
  • Lead the inspection of critical structural elements and systems to verify compliance with design specifications.
  • Ensure comprehensive quality control processes to ensure the highest standards in shipbuilding.
  • Ensure rigorous testing and inspection of ship systems, including propulsion, electrical, and safety equipment.
  • Ensure alignment with international and local maritime regulations, classification society standards, and safety codes.
  • Manage the coordination with regulatory agencies and classification societies to ensure that ships meet all compliance requirements.
  • Manage the preparation of technical documentation and certification for regulatory approvals.
  • Work closely with the shipyard team and technical experts to identify and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise to address unexpected complications or design changes.
  • Work closely with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Office to enforce safety standards, procedures, and legislative requirements, thereby safeguarding the overall well-being of the workforce.
  • Ensure that ship designs meet safety, stability, and performance criteria.
  • Work collaboratively with Program Management to secure the necessary support for effective communication with customers.
  • Provide post-sales assistance to customers and coordinate production centers within designated timelines, costs, and quality standards.
  • Supervise production activities to meet efficiency and productivity goals across different areas.
  • Identify and implement corrective interventions for production deviations from established objectives and manage any technical defects or non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Control and coordinate activities to meet program and cost requirements, addressing changes from Development Design and reporting non-conformities through ERP registrations.
  • Propose initiatives and improvement plans to reduce costs and enhance production performance.
  • Support the Production Control Function (PP&C) in operational planning.
  • Collaborate with PP&C, Trade resources, and MRO to manage human resources effectively in Operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or any other similar field.
  • Above 9 years of experience in related field including 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Master's Degree in Naval Architecture or any other similar field.
